The Caterham/Lola SP300R is a very serious and focused race car aimed at weekend racers, track day junkies and those who wish to participate in Caterhams SP300R one-make race series.
Designed in-house by Lola, the SP300R uses an aluminium tub with a composite light weight body; it also features an F1-style raised nose section, front splitter, flat underbody and large wing to reduce lift. The rear wing alone produces a massive 450 kg of downforce at 160MPH.
At its heart, the SP300R is fitted with a Caterham-tuned, supercharged version of the Ford 2.0-litre Duratec engine, producing 300- 330bhp, matted together with a Hewland semi-automatic FTR gearbox. The SP300R packs 500 BHP per-tonne and rockets from 0-62 mph in just 2.5 seconds and reaches an estimated top speed of around 180mph. The SP300R gets full race suspension, dual wishbones, pushrod dampers, adjustable ride height - coupled with 13-inch racing rims, as well as fire extinguisher, six-point harness, data-logger and all the normal gubbins found in a serious LMP Sports Racing Car.
